It isn’t just homeowners that can benefit from having a good water filtration or water softening system to clean up their water. Commercial businesses can benefit too.
There are a number of businesses whose clients and processes could benefit from a commercial or industrial-grade water softening or water filtration system, including condominium and apartment buildings, clinics, dental offices, educational facilities, manufacturers that produce food or beverages, restaurants and grocery stores, health care facilities and hospitals, biopharmaceutical companies, hotels and even car washes. Any business that relies on clean water for their business model.
At CGC Water Treatment, we pride ourselves on our ability to work with businesses on their schedule and within their existing space constraints to implement the best water softening and filtration systems available on the market. We recently installed a Kinetico reverse osmosis water filtration system at a Chick-Fil-A restaurant. There are always challenges when we implement a commercial project like this, including the business’s schedule. We don’t want to be there installing a water system when customers are there. For Chick-Fil-A, the project had to be completed on a Sunday because that is the only day the business is closed.
What are some of the challenges with installing water systems in a business?
The biggest problem is space limitations. If a business has decided to add a water filtration or water softening unit to an existing building, we have to work within the confines of the existing building. That means adjusting the size of the tanks used because door widths and heights aren’t always uniform. It also means finding the most opportune time to shut the water off during the installation process. The last thing we want is for our customers to lose business while we are installing our equipment in their building.
Commercial projects are usually not sold during the initial client visit, unless it was specified on new construction plans. We set up a site survey to test the company’s water for basic indicators, determine their requirements, propose a solution, and then wait! Funds have to be allocated for these types of projects and decisions must be made, which means that many commercial projects can take up to a year from planning to completion.
Why should businesses consider installing a water softener or water filtration system?
All water can be improved and having softened or cleaner water can positively affect a business’s bottom line. Hotels and motels, for instance, can benefit from installing a commercial-grade water softener because softened water reduces the amount of energy needed to heat the water in the building. Towels and linens washed in softened water will last longer and are softer to the touch; and cleaning the hotel rooms after guests leave is easier and faster because softened water doesn’t leave behind the nasty residue and stains that hard water is known for. Hard water will leave stains around bathtubs, sinks and toilets that can be fairly difficult to remove. Over time, the hard water will actually erode the porcelain on your bathroom and kitchen fixtures making them look less than sanitary and forcing the business to replace them sooner than expected.
Another reason a business should consider installing a water softener is that tankless water heaters are not covered for damage caused by water scaling. Tank water heaters, boilers and cooling towers all benefit when the water is softened, according to a study by the Water Quality Research Foundation.
Water filtration systems are important because they help you produce the freshest and cleanest water you can to not only please customers but to produce food and products made from water that taste better when their flavors aren’t overshadowed by the chemicals, minerals, bacteria or dissolved solids that can sometimes impact both municipal water systems and groundwater wells.
